New arrivals from temperate countries should also recalibrate the calendar. Many garden crews will also source plants for you, which trades a small markup for the right choices and free transport of heavy pots and soil. If you go that route, agree the plant list and an AED range in advance rather than leaving it open-ended — 'some nice plants for the front bed' is how a modest job quietly doubles in price.

Shaded north or east balconies support a wide range of plants; hot south and west aspects narrow you to bougainvillea, adenium, portulaca and succulents. It depends on use. Artificial wins in deep shade, small dog runs and rental properties where zero-risk matters; it needs no water and stays green in photos.
