Dubai and Abu Dhabi are global transit hubs, and many visitors land after eight or more hours in a dry cabin. Some home-health vendors offer a travel or jet-lag drip delivered to a hotel or apartment. It is essentially fluids with B vitamins and sometimes vitamin C or magnesium. It may help you feel less dehydrated; it does not reset your body clock, which still depends on light, sleep timing and rest.

What it typically contains

  • IV fluid base — saline or a balanced crystalloid.
  • B-complex vitamins — the usual core of travel drips.
  • Vitamin C or magnesium — added by some providers; ask which version you are being offered.

Formulations vary by provider. The final ingredients, doses and infusion rate are decided by the licensed clinician after assessing you, and may differ from this list.

Who usually asks for it

  • Business travellers with meetings soon after landing.
  • Holiday visitors arriving from Europe, the Americas or East Asia.
  • Cabin crew and frequent flyers between long rotations, subject to their employer's rules.

Who should not have it, or must check with a doctor first

  • Leg swelling, calf pain or breathlessness after a long flight can signal a blood clot; seek urgent medical care instead.
  • Fever or illness after travel should be assessed by a doctor first.
  • Heart or kidney conditions and blood thinners must be disclosed during screening.

What happens at the appointment

Visits are usually at the hotel or rental where you are staying. Have your passport name and room number ready for the hotel's visitor procedures. The nurse checks vital signs and travel history, then places the cannula; you can rest while it runs.

  1. You send the request on WhatsApp or in the app with your address, preferred time and any health conditions.
  2. A licensed clinician screens you: medical history, medicines, allergies and vital signs. They can decline or refer you elsewhere.
  3. If suitable, a nurse places a small cannula and stays with you for the whole infusion, adjusting the rate if needed.
  4. The cannula is removed, the site is dressed, and you are told what to watch for afterwards.

How often do people have it?

Typically one session after arrival, if at all. Light exposure at the right time of day, sleep planning and steady fluids remain the main tools for adapting to a new time zone.

What affects the price

  • Hotel versus home visit, and the hotel's access process.
  • Late-night or early-morning slots around flight times.
  • Which add-ons are included beyond fluids and B vitamins.
  • Whether a doctor review is required for your health history.

Who is allowed to give IV drips in the UAE

IV therapy is a medical procedure. In the UAE it must be given by a licensed doctor or nurse working for a licensed healthcare facility, after an assessment. In Dubai, providers are licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), or by the Dubai Healthcare City Authority for facilities in Dubai Healthcare City. In Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) regulates providers. In Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, private providers operate under the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) licensing framework. You can ask the nurse for their licence details at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I book before I land?

Yes, you can send the hotel name and expected arrival on WhatsApp. The slot is confirmed against nurse availability near your hotel.

Does it cure jet lag?

No. It may help with dehydration from the flight, but your body clock adjusts through light, sleep and time.

I'm on a stopover — is there time?

Allow for travel to your hotel, assessment and the drip itself. Short connections are usually not realistic.
