Recovery drips sold for 'the morning after' are among the most searched IV services in Dubai, especially around weekends, events and New Year. They are usually a hydration base with vitamins and, when a doctor prescribes it, medicine for nausea or headache. Tamam lists them as recovery support only: they do not cancel the effects of alcohol, and they are no reason to drink more. If someone may have alcohol poisoning, call 998 or 999.
What it typically contains
- IV fluid base — normal saline or lactated Ringer's.
- B-complex and vitamin C — common additions in providers' recovery formulations.
- Anti-nausea or pain-relief medicine — prescription medicines; only given when a doctor orders them after assessment.
Formulations vary by provider. The final ingredients, doses and infusion rate are decided by the licensed clinician after assessing you, and may differ from this list.
Who usually asks for it
- Adults who feel dehydrated, headachy and nauseous the morning after a celebration or late event.
- Hotel guests on short trips who want to recover in their room.
- Groups after a wedding or a party, provided each person is assessed separately.
Who should not have it, or must check with a doctor first
- Confusion, vomiting that will not stop, slow or irregular breathing, seizures or being hard to wake are signs of alcohol poisoning: call 998 or 999 immediately.
- Recent use of sedatives, sleep medicines or other substances must be disclosed; it changes what is safe.
- Nurses will not place a drip if the person still appears intoxicated or cannot give informed consent.
What happens at the appointment
The nurse asks honestly about what was taken and when, checks vital signs and looks for warning signs before anything else. If the person is drowsy, very unwell or unable to consent, the right step is emergency care. Otherwise the drip runs while you rest, and the nurse stays until it finishes.
- You send the request on WhatsApp or in the app with your address, preferred time and any health conditions.
- A licensed clinician screens you: medical history, medicines, allergies and vital signs. They can decline or refer you elsewhere.
- If suitable, a nurse places a small cannula and stays with you for the whole infusion, adjusting the rate if needed.
- The cannula is removed, the site is dressed, and you are told what to watch for afterwards.
How often do people have it?
This should not be a regular habit. If you are booking recovery drips often, speak with a doctor about alcohol use; support is available confidentially in the UAE.
What affects the price
- Whether prescription medicines are added after a doctor's review.
- Weekend, early-morning and holiday timing.
- Hotel visits, which may need lobby or room-access coordination.
- Number of people when a group requests visits at once.
Tamam does not publish fixed prices for medical services. The vendor confirms the cost for your exact request before you agree to anything.
Who is allowed to give IV drips in the UAE
IV therapy is a medical procedure. In the UAE it must be given by a licensed doctor or nurse working for a licensed healthcare facility, after an assessment. In Dubai, providers are licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), or by the Dubai Healthcare City Authority for facilities in Dubai Healthcare City. In Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) regulates providers. In Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, private providers operate under the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) licensing framework. You can ask the nurse for their licence details at any time.

Frequently asked questions
Will a drip sober me up?
No. IV fluids do not speed up how the body clears alcohol, and nobody should drive or make important decisions because they have had a drip.
Can the nurse come to a hotel room?
Many vendors visit hotels. Share the hotel name and any guest-access rules so the nurse can reach your room.
Is it legal to drink alcohol in the UAE?
Rules depend on the emirate, venue and licensing. This page does not encourage drinking; it explains what a clinician considers before giving fluids.
