Kidney function tests measure creatinine and urea in the blood and estimate how well the kidneys filter (eGFR). They are important for people with diabetes or high blood pressure, for those on medicines cleared by the kidneys, and before some procedures or IV treatments. A urine test for albumin is often added because it can show early kidney stress.

What is involved

  • Creatinine and urea.
  • Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).
  • Electrolytes such as sodium and potassium.
  • Urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio when requested.

Who usually books it

  • People with diabetes or high blood pressure.
  • Adults on medicines that need kidney monitoring.
  • Anyone asked by a doctor to check kidneys before a treatment, including IV drips with certain ingredients.

How to prepare

  • Drink water normally unless told otherwise; dehydration can affect results.
  • Avoid very heavy exercise or a large meat meal right before the test if your doctor advises it.
  • Collect the first-morning urine sample if a urine test is included and you have been given a pot.

What happens during the visit

Blood is taken from one vein; if a urine sample is needed, the collector gives you a sterile pot and labels it.

Limits and warning signs

  • Passing little or no urine, swelling, or severe weakness need urgent medical care.
  • Kidney results depend on age, muscle mass and hydration; your doctor interprets them.

What affects the price

  • Blood tests only or with urine tests.
  • Bundling with diabetes or blood-pressure panels.
  • Location and timing.

Licensing of home healthcare in the UAE

Home healthcare in the UAE must be delivered by licensed professionals working for a licensed facility. In Dubai the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) licenses providers, with the Dubai Healthcare City Authority covering facilities in Dubai Healthcare City; in Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) regulates them; in the other five emirates private providers operate under the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) licensing framework. Tamam passes your request to licensed vendors, and you can ask the visiting professional for licence details.

Medical disclaimer and emergencies

This page is general service information, not medical advice. A licensed provider must assess suitability, consent and any prescription or referral requirements. If symptoms are severe, sudden or life-threatening, contact the UAE emergency services instead of waiting for a home appointment.

999 · 998 In an emergency call 999, or 998 for an ambulance. Do not wait for a home appointment if you have chest pain, difficulty breathing, confusion, fainting, a severe headache or signs of heat stroke.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a kidney test needed before some IV drips?

Some ingredients, such as magnesium or high-dose vitamin C, are cleared by the kidneys, so clinicians may want to know kidney function first.

Can dehydration change my result?

Yes, it can raise creatinine temporarily. Drink normally unless told otherwise.

Is the urine sample collected at home too?

Yes, the collector brings a pot and takes it with the blood samples.

Book this drip

Match the provider to the actual task. Ask what is included, what is excluded, whether materials are supplied and what happens if the assessment changes the scope. Regulated health work must be handled by an appropriately licensed healthcare provider. Never use a routine home-service booking for an emergency.
