Fertility hormone tests at home

Day-specific hormone tests that a fertility doctor often requests — timing matters.

Couples trying to conceive are often asked by their doctor for hormone tests. For women these frequently include FSH, LH, oestradiol and prolactin on a specific cycle day, plus AMH, which can be taken on any day. For men, a semen analysis is central but must be done at a laboratory within a short time window. Home collection can make the blood tests easier to fit around work.

What is involved

  • For women: FSH, LH, oestradiol (often on day 2–5 of the cycle), prolactin, thyroid tests and AMH as requested.
  • Progesterone in the second half of the cycle when the doctor wants to confirm ovulation.
  • For men: hormone blood tests such as testosterone and FSH can be collected at home; semen analysis is done at the lab.

Who usually books it

  • Couples referred by a gynaecologist or fertility specialist.
  • Women tracking cycle-specific hormones who need flexible timing.
  • People exploring fertility preservation who have been advised to test AMH.

How to prepare

  • Note the first day of your period so the collector can visit on the right cycle day.
  • Bring the doctor's request form; fertility tests are interpreted together.
  • Mention hormonal contraception or fertility medicines you are taking.

What happens during the visit

  • Hormone results are only meaningful with medical interpretation and timing.

Licensing of home healthcare in the UAE

Home healthcare in the UAE must be delivered by licensed professionals working for a licensed facility. In Dubai the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) licenses providers, with the Dubai Healthcare City Authority covering facilities in Dubai Healthcare City; in Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) regulates them; in the other five emirates private providers operate under the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) licensing framework. Tamam passes your request to licensed vendors, and you can ask the visiting professional for licence details.

Medical disclaimer and emergencies

This page is general service information, not medical advice. A licensed provider must assess suitability, consent and any prescription or referral requirements. If symptoms are severe, sudden or life-threatening, contact the UAE emergency services instead of waiting for a home appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Does AMH need a specific cycle day?

AMH can usually be taken on any day, unlike FSH and oestradiol.

Can semen analysis be done at home?

Collection may be at home but the sample must reach the lab quickly under specific conditions. Most labs prefer collection on site; ask the lab.

Will results tell me if I can get pregnant?

No single test predicts that. A doctor interprets results together.

Book this drip

Match the provider to the actual task. Ask what is included, what is excluded, whether materials are supplied and what happens if the assessment changes the scope. Regulated health work must be handled by an appropriately licensed healthcare provider. Never use a routine home-service booking for an emergency.
