During Ramadan in the UAE, fasting days can be long and hot, and some people find it hard to drink enough between iftar and suhoor. A few home-health providers offer hydration or vitamin drips timed in the evening for this. Religious scholars differ on whether a nutritional IV breaks the fast, so the drip is scheduled after iftar, and anyone unsure should ask a trusted religious authority as well as the clinician.

What it typically contains

  • IV fluid base — saline or a balanced crystalloid, as with a standard hydration drip.
  • B-complex vitamins — commonly added by providers who package this as an evening drip.
  • Electrolytes — adjusted only when the clinician thinks it is appropriate.

Formulations vary by provider. The final ingredients, doses and infusion rate are decided by the licensed clinician after assessing you, and may differ from this list.

Who usually asks for it

  • Fasting adults who work outdoors or in hot environments during Ramadan.
  • People who find it hard to drink enough in the short evening window.
  • Families who prefer a nurse to come home after iftar rather than visit a clinic late at night.

Who should not have it, or must check with a doctor first

  • People with diabetes, especially on insulin or tablets that lower blood sugar, need their doctor's advice on fasting itself before any drip.
  • Kidney or heart conditions, pregnancy and breastfeeding need an individual assessment.
  • Feeling faint, confused or unable to keep fluids down after breaking the fast needs medical review, not a routine wellness slot.

What happens at the appointment

Most bookings are timed between iftar and the late evening. The nurse asks when you last ate and drank, checks vital signs, and confirms that you are no longer fasting before starting. Plan for the visit to take a little over the drip time itself, because the assessment and cannula come first.

  1. You send the request on WhatsApp or in the app with your address, preferred time and any health conditions.
  2. A licensed clinician screens you: medical history, medicines, allergies and vital signs. They can decline or refer you elsewhere.
  3. If suitable, a nurse places a small cannula and stays with you for the whole infusion, adjusting the rate if needed.
  4. The cannula is removed, the site is dressed, and you are told what to watch for afterwards.

How often do people have it?

Most people who use it do so occasionally during the month rather than nightly. Evening fluids, water-rich food and salt balance at suhoor remain the foundation; a doctor can advise if you are struggling.

What affects the price

  • Evening and late-night timing, which is in high demand during Ramadan.
  • Plain fluids versus fluids with vitamins.
  • Whether a doctor consultation is needed because of a health condition.
  • Group visits in one household versus single visits.

Who is allowed to give IV drips in the UAE

IV therapy is a medical procedure. In the UAE it must be given by a licensed doctor or nurse working for a licensed healthcare facility, after an assessment. In Dubai, providers are licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), or by the Dubai Healthcare City Authority for facilities in Dubai Healthcare City. In Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) regulates providers. In Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, private providers operate under the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) licensing framework. You can ask the nurse for their licence details at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Does an IV drip break the fast?

Opinions differ among scholars, which is why providers schedule these drips after iftar. Ask a religious authority you trust if you are unsure.

Can someone with diabetes have one?

Only after their own doctor has advised on fasting and the provider's clinician has assessed them. Blood-sugar control comes first.

Are late-night appointments available?

Many vendors extend evening hours during Ramadan, but slots fill quickly. Tamam confirms the actual time with you before the booking is final.
