Doctor-assessed

After COVID-19, influenza or other viral illnesses, some people feel drained for weeks. Several UAE home-health providers offer a 'post-COVID' or recovery drip with fluids and vitamins. Because ongoing fatigue can hide anaemia, heart or lung complications, thyroid problems or low mood, Tamam lists this as a physician-assessed drip: a doctor should review you before a nurse sets up anything.

What it typically contains

  • IV fluids — if the doctor judges you to be dehydrated.
  • B vitamins and vitamin C — commonly included.
  • Zinc or magnesium — sometimes added at the doctor's discretion.

Formulations vary by provider. The final ingredients, doses and infusion rate are decided by the licensed clinician after assessing you, and may differ from this list.

Who usually asks for it

  • Adults still tired weeks after a viral infection who are under a doctor's care.
  • People whose appetite and fluid intake dropped during illness.
  • Older adults recovering at home with family support.

Who should not have it, or must check with a doctor first

  • Breathlessness, chest pain, palpitations or fainting after an infection need urgent medical assessment.
  • Fatigue that worsens after small efforts may need a specialist plan; pushing harder can make it worse.
  • Kidney and heart conditions, pregnancy and multiple medicines need individual review.

What happens at the appointment

The visit often starts with a doctor's consultation, in person or by phone through the provider, sometimes with blood tests. The nurse then proceeds only on the doctor's order. Allow extra time on the first visit.

  1. You send the request on WhatsApp or in the app with your address, preferred time and any health conditions.
  2. A licensed clinician screens you: medical history, medicines, allergies and vital signs. They can decline or refer you elsewhere.
  3. If suitable, a nurse places a small cannula and stays with you for the whole infusion, adjusting the rate if needed.
  4. The cannula is removed, the site is dressed, and you are told what to watch for afterwards.

How often do people have it?

Set by the doctor based on your recovery, not a fixed package. Rest pacing, nutrition and follow-up tests matter as much as any drip.

What affects the price

  • Doctor consultation fees and any blood tests.
  • The ingredients the doctor orders.
  • Follow-up visits.
  • Location and timing.

Tamam does not publish fixed prices for medical services. The vendor confirms the cost for your exact request before you agree to anything.

Who is allowed to give IV drips in the UAE

IV therapy is a medical procedure. In the UAE it must be given by a licensed doctor or nurse working for a licensed healthcare facility, after an assessment. In Dubai, providers are licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), or by the Dubai Healthcare City Authority for facilities in Dubai Healthcare City. In Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) regulates providers. In Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, private providers operate under the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) licensing framework. You can ask the nurse for their licence details at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Can a drip cure long COVID?

No. There is no IV treatment proven to cure post-viral fatigue. A drip may support hydration or nutrition while a doctor manages your recovery.

Should I have blood tests first?

Often yes. Tests can reveal anaemia, vitamin deficiencies or thyroid issues that change the plan.

Can family members book for an elderly parent?

Yes, but the parent must be able to consent, or the appropriate legal decision-maker must be involved, and a doctor must assess them.
